Maryland Energy Relief Credit
Maryland residential customers will receive two bill credits as part of the Next Generation Energy Act’s Legislative Energy Relief Fund. The credits are designed to help customers manage higher energy bills due to rising electric supply prices.

What is the Legislative Energy Relief Refund?
The Legislative Energy Relief Fund was created as part of the Next Generation Energy Act that was passed in April 2025. The fund provides $200 million in refunds to electric utility customers in the state of Maryland to help lessen the impact of higher bills due to rising electric supply prices.

How do the credits work?
Customers will receive a credit directly on their bill in September 2025 and a second in early 2026.
The refunds are based on an individual customer’s average electricity usage over a year, from April 2024 through March 2025.
The credit amounts for September 2025 are as follows:

Where can I find the credit on my bill?
The credit will be listed as Legislative Energy Relief Refund on your September bill.

Who can receive the credit?
Residential customers must meet the following criteria to receive the summer credit:
- Have an active electric account as of June 1, 2025
- Have recorded electricity usage between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025
- Be an active account holder during the month when the credit is applied

What if I want to decline the bill credit?
If you do not wish to keep the credit, you are encouraged to make a monetary donation to a program that offers energy assistance.

If you wish to donate your credit to an energy assistance agency, the organizations below can accept a donation:
