Electrical Fires
If there is an electrical fire, move outside the building to a safe location and call 9-1-1 or your local emergency number. Other tips to remember include:
Never use water to fight an electrical fire.
Water conducts electricity and you could receive a bad shock. If flames are small, use baking soda or a fire extinguisher approved for Class C (electrical) fires.
If smoke or flame is coming from an appliance, don't touch the appliance.
Unplug it or go to the main circuit breaker and turn off all power to the house. If the smoke or flames don't die out quickly, try using an approved Class C fire extinguisher.
If you can't put out a fire immediately, get out.
Don't wait for a fire to get out of control and trap you. Get out and go to a neighbor's house or use a cell phone to call 9-1-1 and summon the fire department. Stay out and wait for help to arrive.
