Low-Income Multifamily Programs

FirstEnergy is now offering the following energy efficiency programs to landlords and building owners with income-qualifying tenants. This information is also available in this downloadable brochure.


Individually Metered Multifamily Program

This program applies to buildings with five or more units that are individually metered. To qualify, the tenants must be at or below 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. There is no cost to the tenants or the landlord/building owner.

Energy-efficient items may include:

  • Efficient lighting
  • LED night lights
  • Refrigerator/freezer evaluation and replacement
  • Smart power strips
  • Faucet aerators
  • Shower heads
  • Electric water heater inspection
  • Furnace whistles
  • Rebates for air sealing, insulation, and HVAC work available through another FirstEnergy program

Master Metered Multifamily Program

This program applies to buildings with five or more units that share a common electric meter. To qualify, a minimum of 66 percent of tenants must be at or below 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. There is no cost to the tenants or the landlord/building owner.  For more information, please contact us.

Common Area Energy-Efficient Upgrades

Energy-efficient items for common areas are available for both master and individu­ally metered buildings with five or more units. To qualify, a minimum of 66 percent of tenants must be at or below 150 percent of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. The Program pays for 80 percent of the cost of each energy efficiency item installed – leaving the landlord/building owner only responsible for 20 percent. For more information please contact us.
