How to Tell the Difference Between a Streetlight and an Outdoor Area Light

  • Identifying a Streetlight

A streetlight is mounted on a lamppost or pole and provides illumination for streets, roads, and public areas, enhancing visibility for public routes in communities. Issues with streetlights can be reported with or without a FirstEnergy account, providing details and the location of the affected light.

  • Identifying an Outdoor Area Light

Outdoor area lights are installed on a customer's property or within private gated communities (HOAs) and are serviced by the utility company and leased to the customer. Problems with an outdoor area light can only be reported by the ratepayer for that light.
