Ohio Solar Accommodation Map
A Solar Accommodation Map, commonly referred to as a Hosting Capacity Map, is available for Ohio Edison, Toledo Edison, and Illuminating Company (each a “Company” and collectively, the “Companies”) distribution circuits to help guide developers to locations that may be able to accommodate commercial or utility scale photovoltaic generation location. Values on the map are to be used as guidance only; developers are still required to submit a complete application for Company review and approval prior to construction and interconnection.
Map Summary
- The Companies' electric grid is made up of many individual electrical circuits.
- There is a limit to the amount of power – including the electricity generated by a solar generating system or other distributed energy resources (“DER”) – that an electric circuit can safely and reliably accommodate.
- This map represents an estimate of the feasibility of locating a solar generating system at locations across the Companies’ systems. This map should not be used for other purposes.
- All DERs, including solar generating systems, must be submitted to the Company on a fully completed interconnection and/or net metering application for comprehensive technical review through the established interconnection and/or net metering process.
- A location showing available hosting capacity does not guarantee approval of an interconnection without system upgrades.
- Values may change at any time.
- This map is updated with available information at the time of update.
- Interconnection and net metering applications in the Companies’ queues may take up capacity and not be reflected on this map.
- Service transformer, service conductors, or other infrastructure upgrades may be required. A determination of the need for infrastructure upgrades, payable by the applicant under Ohio law, is made by the Companies as part of the application process. Any such potentially required upgrades are not reflected on this map
- One-phase or two-phase sections of Company circuits may have lower accommodation limits than indicated on this map. Networked distribution feeders are not mapped.
- The technological, legal, and regulatory considerations that apply to interconnection of solar generation and other DERs are complex and evolving.
- The information presented on this map was accurate in all material respects as of January 2025. However, the Companies and their affiliates cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information found on this map. Please seek appropriate technical, operational, financial, and legal advice before proceeding.
- Applications will still be accepted on circuits mapped with no available capacity remaining. Level 1 applications may still be approved. Larger applications will require significant system upgrades paid by the applicant.
