Step Into Summer With Energy Savings

Smart Thermostat

Many New Jersey families will enter the summer with the strain of inflation on their pocketbooks, so finding ways to save is as important as ever. With Jersey Central Power & Light’s (JCP&L) energy efficiency programs, your electric bill is one place to start.

“Small steps can add up to a big difference on your electric bill over time,” said Tony Brown, Director of Energy Efficiency Programs at JCP&L and its parent company, FirstEnergy. “Our programs are designed to give customers practical tools to manage energy use and save money.”

No-Cost Programs

Sometimes the hardest part of reducing your energy use is figuring out where to start. JCP&L offers a no-cost Whole Home Energy Assessment program, during which an energy advisor will personally review your home and provide a report with custom-tailored energy saving improvement recommendations.

As part of the assessment, the energy advisor may install products that can help you start saving right away on your electric bill, like LED light bulbs, smart power strips, water heater pipe wrapping and more. If you decide to pursue bigger-ticket items like insulation or air sealing, JCP&L’s Whole Home Energy Solutions program can provide rebates of up to $7,500 and 0% financing.

Instant Savings & Rebates

JCP&L customers can save money quickly and easily on projects both big and small.

Need a new window air conditioner? Planning to upgrade to a smart thermostat? JCP&L’s Energy Saving Marketplace offers discounts, including on Google Nest, Honeywell and Sensi smart thermostats, with select models starting at just $1.00.

If you have a bigger project in mind, rebates of up to $750 are available on ductless heating and cooling systems, while you can save up to $200 with rebates on central air conditioners. Rebates are also available on qualifying ENERGY STAR rated appliances like refrigerators (up to $100) and dehumidifiers (up to $40) – and you can make more money getting rid of your old unit.

JCP&L’s Appliance Recycling program will pay you up to $100 for each old, working refrigerator or freezer that you recycle through them and $50 for dehumidifiers or room air conditioners.

Easy Ways to Save Energy

Simple, every day steps can also help you save by reducing energy use and costs. Air conditioners are the biggest electricity draw in the typical home and the harder they have to work, the more energy they use. Simple savings steps include:

  • Close your curtains. Blocking sunlight reduces radiant heat.
  • Change your filter. Replace filters every three months, or more often during times of high use.
  • Don’t add extra heat. Avoid using your heat-producing appliances during the hottest hours of the day.
