Turn Your Old Appliances into Cash – and Lower Your Energy Bill

Recycled fridge image

Do you have an old fridge humming away in your garage? Or maybe a room air conditioner that’s seen better days? These older appliances may still work, but they’re likely using more energy than they should—and costing you more each month.

Good news. FirstEnergy Pennsylvania’s Appliance Recycling program makes it easy to get rid of inefficient appliances, and you can help the environment and get paid for doing it.

Why Recycle an Inefficient Appliance

Upgrading to an ENERGY STAR® certified appliance means you’ll use less energy and save more money. For example:

  • ENERGY STAR freezers are 10% more efficient than standard models

  • ENERGY STAR refrigerators use about 9% less energy

These appliances also tend to last longer and perform better. Plus, recycling old appliances helps protect the environment by keeping harmful materials out of landfills and ensuring the safe disposal of refrigerants and other substances.

What you can Earn

If you're a customer of FirstEnergy Pennsylvania Electric Company – known locally as West Penn Power, Met-ed or Penelec - you can earn:

  • $50 for each working refrigerator or room air conditioner

  • $25 for a working freezer

  • $25 for a mini refrigerator or dehumidifier recycled with a refrigerator or freezer

How it Works – It’s Easy

  1. Schedule your pickup online or call CLEAResult at 1-888-314-8141
