Our commitment to customers extends beyond delivering safe, reliable electricity to engaging meaningfully and investing in the communities we serve. FirstEnergy strengthens communities by working with local leaders and organizations and remaining responsive to evolving needs.
The FirstEnergy Foundation supports 501(c)(3) organizations across FirstEnergy’s operational area, helping them build capacity, strengthen outcomes and deliver lasting impact. In 2025, the Foundation distributed more than $7 million to support community needs.
FirstEnergy Foundation Giving Priorities
Our giving priorities reflect community needs and align with the company’s strategic focus in the following areas:
- Housing stability
- Hunger relief
- Workforce development
- STEM initiatives
Limitations
The FirstEnergy Foundation does not provide grants to individuals or support political or legislative activities. In addition, the Foundation generally does not fund:
- Organizations that receive substantial public tax funding
- Government or public administration entities
- Fraternal, religious, labor, athletic or social organizations, unless funding is designated for an eligible program open to all beneficiaries, including those not affiliated with the host organization
- International, foreign affairs or national security organizations
- Research
- Equipment or capital purchases
- Loans or second‑party giving, including endowments, debt retirement or foundations
- Public or private secondary schools (Pre‑K–12)
- Organizations classified as public charities under Section 509(a)(3)
- Salaries, stipends or scholarships
- Transportation costs
- Animal protection, welfare or veterinary services
- Correctional facilities or addiction treatment agencies
How to Apply
The FirstEnergy Foundation does not accept unsolicited grant applications. Organizations with grant inquiries should contact the Community Involvement Department.
Program grant requests that exceed $25,000, require a separate proposal, as well as meeting with the Foundation President.
