TUSC 138KV Substation Six-Breaker Ring Bus Expansion Project (Case No. 26-0267-EL-BNR)

In this project, ATSI is proposing to expand the existing Tusc 138 kV Substation to accommodate the expansion of the four-breaker ring bus into a six-breaker ring bus. To facilitate this, the substation will expand from its existing square footage of approximately 55,541 square feet to approximately 99,686 square feet. This will result in an approximate 80 percent increase in square footage.

In addition to the substation expansion, the adjacent Pine–Wadsworth Muni 138 kV Transmission Line will be looped into the Tusc Substation. The new transmission line loop will create two new transmission lines, the Pine–Tusc 138 kV and Tusc–Wadsworth Muni 138 kV transmission lines. Due to the proximity of the parallel Barberton–West Akron 138 kV Transmission Line, a new mid-span steel monopole structure on a concrete foundation is required to be installed on the Barberton West Akron 138 kV Transmission Line to control conductor movement and ensure adequate clearances between all circuits, operating equipment, and structures in the area.

To accomplish the connection of the existing Star-Tusc and Tusc-Urban 138 kV transmission lines to the Tusc Substation, the existing wood pole structures (4998 and #4999) will be replaced with single steel monopole structures on concrete foundations. To accomplish the connection of the existing Pine-Wadsworth 138 kV Transmission Line to the Tusc Substation, the conductors of the transmission line will extend from existing steel lattice structures #7584 and #7585.

The Project is located in the city of Norton in Summit County, Ohio.
