Plug into better protection.

The basic surge suppression plan is available only to Mon Power and Potomac Edison customers.

The meter socket surge arrester (MSA) program is designed to protect large appliances within the home, such as your refrigerator, oven, washer and dryer, central heating and air conditioning equipment and sump pump. See Basic Surge Protection Plan Terms and Conditions for a list of all eligible appliances.

The MSA device is leased for a monthly fee, and is installed behind the electric meter to provide the first line of defense against electrical surges entering through the service entrance.

A brief (15-20 minute) interruption of your electric service will be necessary when the device is installed.

The Basic Surge Protection Plan contract is for one year, and will automatically renew each year unless the customer provides a written notice requesting cancellation to the utility at least seven days prior to the end of the annual term.
