MORRISTOWN, N.J., April 24, 2015 -- Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) has been named "Business Leadership of the Year Honoree" by the New Jersey Conference of Mayors (NJCM), recognizing the company's continuing efforts to establish strong working relationships with mayors across its service territory.  The award was presented at a legislative reception during NJCM's 52nd Annual Conference, held April 23 in Atlantic City.

"JCP&L has significantly increased its outreach to mayors and community leaders, giving us a better understanding of the company's operations and ensuring open and timely interactions between the company and local communities," said Raymond S. Heck, NJCM, president.  "We are pleased to recognize JCP&L's tremendous efforts to build effective partnerships with mayors throughout their coverage area."   

JCP&L's external affairs staff, whose members work with mayors and other officials in the communities served by the company, has expanded from eight to 11 representatives since 2012, reflecting the company's added emphasis on building relationships with local officials.  Reporting to Mark Jones, vice president of JCP&L External Affairs, staff members' day-to-day responsibilities include responding to service inquiries from municipalities, hosting tours of the company's outage control centers for community officials, proactively delivering weather-related alerts, and participating with local officials in power restoration effort conference calls.  Recently, offices for these representatives were moved to four regional facilities, positioning them closer to the communities they serve.

JCP&L plans to spend about $267 million in 2015 on projects to enhance and maintain a strong electrical system and help meet future load growth in its 13-county service area.  Major projects scheduled for this year include completion of a new transmission line, substation improvements, and the installation of remote-controlled equipment to reduce the duration of outages.
