Economic Development Conference
FirstEnergy hosted an Economic Development Conference in Fairmont, West Virginia that brought together many of our regional partners to learn about the region’s growth opportunities. Speakers include Jim Estep, President and Chief Executive Officer, The High Technology Foundation, Ed Crowe, PhD, WVU Business Extension, Rick Rock, Director, North Central West Virginia Airport, Dr. Jim Robey, an economist with a doctorate degree in urban studies and Dennis Burnside, a site selection consultant with more than 30 years’ experience serving the economic development community.

Power Quality, Advanced Manufacturing and Improving Efficiency
We held several workshops to help industrial and manufacturing customers improve their competitiveness through low-cost power quality (PQ) solutions, efficiency applications and advanced manufacturing technologies.

Economic Development Conferences – Manufacturing Growth Opportunities in Pennsylvania
FirstEnergy hosted Economic Development Conferences that brought together many of our regional partners to learn about the region’s growth opportunities as a result of shale. The conferences explored regional opportunities for preparedness, planning and growth in this sector. Speakers include Kathryn Klaber, former CEO of the Marcellus Shale Coalition, Dr. Jim Robey, an economist with a doctorate degree in urban studies and Dennis Burnside, a site selection consultant with more than 30 years’ experience serving the economic development community.
Energy Efficiency Workshop
We co-hosted this workshop for Met-Ed’s NGI customers (hospitals, schools and government buildings), to provide information on different energy efficiency project options that can be implemented to reduce energy costs and improve facility operation. Experts from the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) provided information on lighting and controls, premium efficiency motors, adjustable speed drives, compressed air best practices, chiller plant optimization and PC power management. Case studies for specific customer applications and an overview of Met-Ed energy efficiency programs and incentives under Pennsylvania’s Act 129 were provided.
