Procedure to interconnect small generation with the FirstEnergy Distribution System

Ohio Edison Company, The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Company, and The Toledo Edison Company

Prior to completing the application process, a customer interested in interconnecting small generation with the FirstEnergy distribution system must first determine the size and type of equipment which best suits the customer's requirements in accordance with the Company's Tariff. A copy of the Company's Interconnection Tariff rate schedule is available on the Company's Ohio tariffs page.

The interconnection process consists of 3 main levels that govern requirements for interconnection. These levels are based on the capacity of your generator. Level 1 (includes Levels 1.1 and 1.2), in general, covers generator capacity up to 10 kW (Level 1.2 provides for installations up to 50 kW under special circumstances). For Level 2, the generator capacity limit is 2000 kW. For Level 3, the generator capacity limit is 20,000 kW. For more details, see "Interconnection Services," Chapter 4901:1-22 et seq., of the Ohio Administrative Code at: http://codes.ohio.gov/oac/4901%3A1-22.
