Nationally recognized practices

FirstEnergy has been named a Tree Line USA utility by the National Arbor Day Foundation. It is the only investor-owned utility in Ohio - and one of only 51 utilities throughout the United States - to be so honored.

FirstEnergy received the award as a result of the tree care programs run by its electric utility companies - Ohio Edison, The Illuminating Company, Toledo Edison and Penn Power. The Tree Line USA award honors utilities that strive to promote the dual goals of dependable utility service and abundant, healthy trees along America's streets and highways. Sponsored by the National Arbor Day Foundation, in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters, the award recognizes electric, gas, water or telephone utilities that meet three requirements:

• A program of quality tree care
• Annual worker training in proper tree practices
• A tree planting and public education program
